Who writes this content
CheckThisQR is an independent project maintained by one person, not a newsroom or research team. Guides are drafted with AI assistance (Claude, by Anthropic) based on publicly available reporting and official sources, then reviewed and edited before publishing. We're disclosing this plainly rather than presenting the content as if it came from a large in-house editorial staff, because we'd rather you trust an accurate picture of how this works than an inflated one.
Source standards
Factual claims and statistics are sourced from one of the following, in order of preference:
- Government agencies (e.g. the IRS, FTC, CISA) and their official publications
- Established news organizations reporting on named security research (e.g. CNBC, Fox News, industry press)
- Named cybersecurity vendors' own published research and statistics (e.g. NordVPN, KeepNet Labs), always attributed by name rather than presented as our own findings
We link directly to sources near the claims they support, rather than burying citations in a single list at the bottom of a page.
What we don't do
- We don't present AI-drafted text as independently verified original reporting.
- We don't cite a statistic without a specific, checkable source.
- We don't claim our safety verdicts are guarantees — see our methodology page for exactly what is and isn't checked.
Update cadence
Guides are revisited when the underlying facts change materially — a new statistic replaces an outdated one, a scam pattern evolves, or a tool feature changes. We don't republish content on a fixed schedule just to appear "fresh"; the "Last updated" date on each guide reflects an actual substantive edit, not a cosmetic touch.
Corrections
If you find an inaccuracy, outdated statistic, or broken source link, please report it via our About page contact email. We'll correct genuine errors promptly and note significant corrections in the affected page's history where relevant.
